Three competition winners will visit LA to pitch their trailer to a Sony Pictures executive Shutterstock

Make a Movie – the winners!

Following completion of the judging we are very pleased to announce that the three winning entries to our Make a Movie competition are:

Spring Heeled Jack by Geof Wolfenden
The judges thought that this was a “quality animation with an instantly understood storyline even in this short form. The use of lighting and music was especially strong and the whole thing driven on smartly by the use of rhyming couplets in the narration. It not only showed a real understanding of the genre but how it is possible to make animation for all audiences.”

Before Breaking Bollywood by Lorne Guy
The judges thought that this was “a fun concept with two winning performances although one was stronger than the other. It was one of the few pieces which made one want to see more and feel as though you would like to go on the journey with the two guys. The potential for the story to expand was apparent and it lent itself to being made in so many ways with modest or larger budgets. One more scene, or suggestion of the next step, would have been a huge help.”

The Nobodies by Kevin Curtis
This selection split the judges more than any other. They thought that “what did not help was that the acting in so many parts seemed pretty poor to us but what came through so many times was that the writing was undeniably funny. Most of the characters you could see developing into well rounded comic creations, albeit played by others, and within that there were about half a dozen top grade one liners. Much more attention to production values even at this early stage would help but to some extent it was the (very) raw talent of it that won us over.”

Thanks to all who entered for your hard work and fantastic efforts. We wish you all luck in your future film-making careers and hope you got a lot out of the competition.
